Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has launched a six-week survey on the future of the NHS vasectomy service in Oxfordshire.

 

The survey asks for the public’s views about stopping the service (except where there are exceptional circumstances) or introducing criteria on the number of men who can get the surgical contraceptive procedure. People who take part in the survey will remain anonymous.
 
Dr Shelley Hayles, GP lead for planned care at Oxfordshire CCG, said: “I would urge local people to tell us their views on the two options we have put forward for the local NHS vasectomy service. This will help us to make an informed decision on the future of the service.
 
“In line with the national picture, the NHS locally is facing considerable financial challenges with increasing demand for services with less money to pay for them. It’s our responsibility to ensure limited resources are allocated to where they are most needed in the NHS, which might mean some services are delayed or discontinued.”
 
The CCG is also planning to organise two focus groups to allow people to feed back their views during the six-week survey period.
