Next steps for OX12 project on future health and care needs

Patients, the public and other key stakeholders have been working with health and care bosses in Oxfordshire over the past 11 months  to develop a plan for the future needs of people living in Wantage, Grove and surrounding villages.

The Oxfordshire Health and Wellbeing Board (HWB) has ensured public views and experiences are taken into account in the implementation of Oxfordshire’s Population Health and Care Needs Framework in the postcode area of OX12.

The OX12 project is based on the health and wellbeing needs of the community and recognises the services and assets (including buildings) which already exist in the area.

Following a successful  Solution Building Event - which took place last month in Wantage and was attended by more than 70 people  - the OX12 Project has now focussed on four ‘key issues’ which are being looked at by four working groups:

  • Promoting health and wellbeing
  • Transforming and integrating delivery of health and care
  • Providing services closer to home and supporting people to live independently for longer
  • Travel, transport and access.

By the end of November 2019 the project will have produced a summary report to inform proposals for the future, which will be presented to the HWB in December.

Libby Furness, head of strategy and transformation at Oxfordshire CCG and project lead, said: “We now have a clear understanding of the population health and care needs in OX12. We have been able to gain a clear picture of what services are available  currently and what gaps needs to be addressed.

"The information we have gathered has focussed the project on key areas and our working groups are now meeting regularly to discuss and shape proposals for how and where services should be provided in the future."

Over the past 11 months the project team and the Stakeholder Reference Group - made up of  patients, carers and residents from the local community - have collected considerable data on the health and wellbeing needs of the OX12 population. An Oxfordshire-wide clinical forum has also looked at best practice and innovative ways of delivering services.

An Oxfordshire Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee Task and Finish Group is providing oversight to and assurance of timely and thorough completion of the Local Health Needs Assessment Framework.

All up to date information relating to the OX12 project is available on OCCG’s website.
