Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (OCCG) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Kiren Collison as the organisation’s new Clinical Chair, following an election involving all 70 of the county's GP practices.
With a 97 per cent turn out for the election Dr Kiren Collison has been given a strong mandate to represent GPs at the helm of OCCG. She will take on the Clinical Chair role in December 2017 from Dr Joe McManners, who has been in the role since February 2014 and his term is coming to an end.
Dr Collison is a GP in Witney and has been involved in the work of OCCG for four years. She is currently the GP lead for diagnostics and maternity services across the county.
She said: "I am very pleased to be taking up the role of Clinical Chair and welcome the opportunity to lead the clinical aspect of commissioning in Oxfordshire, on behalf of all our 720,000 residents.

“We continue to face increased demand, financial pressures, workforce shortages and inequalities. In light of the difficult circumstances we find ourselves in, I will work very hard with all member GPs, all providers, social care and patients to bring about sustainable services across all healthcare settings.

Roger Dickinson, lay member and vice chair of the OCCG Board, said: "Congratulations to Dr Kiren Collison and thanks to all our voting member GP practices for taking part in the election. Thank you too, to Dr Paul Park who was a contender in the election.
"I would also thank Joe McManners for his contribution to the work of OCCG during the last four years. Joe has committed considerable time and energy to improving healthcare for Oxfordshire's population, and has done much to highlight and start to tackle inequalities in the health of the most deprived members of our communities. We wish him the very best for the future."
Joe McManners said: “I congratulate both of my GP colleagues who stood for election; it was a good process and good turn out from voting member practices. I will be handing over the reins to Kiren, over the coming month, to ensure a smooth hand over and continuous leadership for OCCG.”
