Doctor prepares COVID vaccine

Cases of COVID-19 infections in Oxford City’s cases are now in the top 10 of the country and the highest in the South-East so it’s vitally important that as many people aged 18 and over get a vaccination as soon as possible.

The NHS has opened a number of walk-in clinics in Oxford as part of ‘grab a jab’. No appointment or ID is needed:

  • Iffley Road Sports Centre, Iffley Road, Cowley, Oxford OX4 1EQ
    Tuesday 6 July – Thursday 8 July 2021
     from 9.30am to 7.30pm
    Friday 9 July from 9.30am to 6pm

  • Oxford University Club, Mansfield Road, Oxford OX1 3SZ
    Wednesday 7 July from 10am to 8pm
Thursday 8 July and Friday 9 July from 9am to 8pm

  • East Oxford Health Centre, 2 Manzil Way, Cowley, Oxford OX4 1GE
    Saturday 10 July 2021
     from 9am to 5pm

These walk-in clinics are for first does only. People who attend a walk-in clinic for their first dose will have their vaccination record updated online and can book in their second dose appointment (for around 8 weeks later) using the national booking system.

Anyone aged 18 or over can also book a vaccination on the national booking service (no need to wait to be invited).

Jo Cogswell, Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group, director for transformation, said: “We must do all we can to get on top of this big rise in cases in Oxford, so if you haven’t already, please take up your offer of a first vaccination. It's the best way to protect yourself, your family and friends and will help stop the spread.”

Additional COVID-19 testing facilities for people aged 18 - 29 in Oxford will continue to be available after cases in the city jumped from 296 to 946 this week (ending 2 July), with 80 per cent falling in this age group.

More than 1,000 young people took part in PCR testing at temporary facilities over the weekend. Oxfordshire County Council and Oxford City Council is asking for more people aged 18 - 29 to now take part with three walk-in mobile testing units open for business from Tuesday 6 July - Sunday 11 July, 10am - 8pm (no appointment is needed):

  • South Park (St Clement’s end)
  • The Blavatnik School of Government, Walton Street
  • Manzil Way Gardens, Cowley Road.

The testing centres at Oxford Brookes University and Osney Lane are also open every day 8am - 8pm, including for those without symptoms, but people need to book an appointment on gov.uk.
