Statement following publication of IRP’s advice to Secretary of State on permanent closure of consultant-led maternity at Horton General Hospital

We have now received the IRP advice about the permanent closure of obstetric services at the Horton General Hospital. We have been asked to undertake a joint piece of work with Oxfordshire Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee (HOSC) and we have contacted the HOSC Chairman to ensure an early discussion about how we will do this together.

Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (OCCG) must make changes to the timing for considering the outcome of the Big Health and Care Consultation (Phase One of the Oxfordshire Transition Plan) because of the forthcoming election (8 June) and the additional period of purdah.

Patients and the public in Oxfordshire have responded in their thousands to proposed changes to some health services in the county. The 12 week Big Health and Care Consultation, which launched on the 16 January, closed at midnight on Sunday 9 April.
