Community Hospitals

Community hospitals often act as a bridge between hospital and home, particularly for elderly patients who may need rehabilitation to help them regain their independence as they recover from an illness.

The number of inpatient beds each community hospital provides varies, as does the range of services they offer. Many community hospitals also provide day services, outpatient clinics, and therapy services. Some also provide Minor Injury Units.

There are nine community hospitals in Oxfordshire:

  • Abingdon Community Hospital
  • Bicester Community Hospital
  • Chipping Norton War Memorial Community Hospital
  • Didcot Community Hospital
  • Henley (Townlands) Community Hospital
  • Oxford City Community Hospital
  • Wallingford Community Hospital
  • Wantage Community Hospital
  • Witney Community Hospital

For further information on each hospital, please visit Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust’s website, www.oxfordhealth.nhs.uk or see http://www.oxfordhealth.nhs.uk/?services=community-hospitals for contact details.

Community hospitals can provide intermediate bed-based care for patients following treatment or surgery at an acute hospital. They act as a bridge between hospital and home, particularly for elderly patients who may need rehabilitation before being able to look after themselves at home, with the support of our community nursing team.
