It's not too late to vaccinate - get flu safe

Date: 16 January 2018

It's not too late to get your flu jab

Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group is encouraging all patients in Oxfordshire who are entitled to a free flu vaccine to make sure they get it as part of staying well this winter.

A flu vaccine is available for free on the NHS for the following people:

  • All children aged two to nine on 31 August 2016
  • Those aged six months to under 65 years in clinical risk groups
  • Pregnant women
  • Those aged 65 years and over
  • Those in long-stay residential care homes
  • Carers

Dr Edward Capo-Bianco, Locality Clinical Director at Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group said: “Flu is much more serious than getting a cold and the effects of seasonal flu are often underestimated.  If you think you may be eligible for the free flu jab, speak to your GP or local pharmacist, it is not too late to vaccinate.”

The good news is that all vaccines this season offered to children and adults include coverage against the A (H2N2) ‘Aussie’ strain of flu.

People suffering with flu like symptoms should catch coughs or sneezes in tissues and bin them immediately, wash their hands regularly with soap and warm water and frequently clean regularly used surfaces to stop the spread of flu – Catch it, bin it and kill it.
