Download the phone app to find health services quickly
Date: 11 October 2017
People are reminded to download Oxfordshire CCG’s free smartphone app which quickly signposts to local health services such as GP practices and pharmacists.
‘Health and Care Oxfordshire’ uses digital mapping to allow people to find their nearest health service, wherever they are in the county.
The app highlights the type of injuries or illnesses treated at minor injuries units or first aid units in Oxfordshire, and the advice and support provided by local pharmacies and GP practices.
People can also find information via the app on a range of services delivered by sexual health clinics and where these are located in Oxfordshire.
It signposts people to the county’s adult social care website, and also to Patient Access. This allows people to use online services provided by their GP practice.
Dr Merlin Dunlop, a deputy GP Lead at Oxfordshire CCG, said: “This is a very effective and easy to use app which advises people on the best health services to use if they are unwell or need treatment – it also shows exactly where a service is located in Oxfordshire.
“The app will help people get advice and treatment quickly over the winter months to keep them well and healthy, and avoid illnesses from getting worse. This should reduce the need for people, especially older people, to visit A&E or hospital.”
Details of pharmacies, GP practices, minor injuries and first aid units as well as A&E departments in Oxfordshire are listed, together with information about some nearby main hospitals outside the county. These are displayed on digital maps showing the exact location of the service and contact details. Opening times of individual services can be accessed via provider websites or through NHS Choices.
