Cold weather can be seriously bad for your health. That's why it's important to look after yourself, especially during the winter. If you start to feel unwell, even if it’s a cough or a cold, don’t wait until it gets more serious. Seek advice from your pharmacist.

Flu is very infectious and spread by germs from coughs and sneezes, which can live on hands and surfaces for 24 hours.

Dr Edward Capo-Bianco, Locality Clinical Director at Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group said: “Following the simple steps below will make a huge difference in the fight against common colds and the more serious flu virus.”

  • CATCH IT – Always carry tissues and use them to cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze

  • BIN IT – Dispose of used tissues as soon as possible

  • KILL IT – Clean your hands with soap and water as soon as you can and make sure you wash them frequently

Edward continues:  “If you follow the steps above then it will help you and your family stay safe and well this winter.”

An easy way to stay well this winter is to get the flu vaccination. You are eligible for the free flu vaccine if you are pregnant, are aged 65 years or over, have a long term health condition, or are a carer and children aged two to nine on 31 August 2016.   Ask your GP, pharmacist or midwife.
